Performing Arts

Who can join?

Performing arts classes are available to all 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students at Madison. Students do not need to have previous experience to join performing arts classes. We instruct beginning, intermediate, and advanced students in the class of their choice. Students will have the opportunity to continue performing arts classes in 7th and 8th grade. (Please note that beginning band is a prerequisite for advanced band)

Band is a group instrumental ensemble. Students will learn to play a band instrument, read music, and to be a part of an ensemble. The Madison band learns and performs a wide variety of music including film scores, orchestral transcriptions, and original band music. There are three evening concerts per school year and occasionally will do community performances.

Choir is a group singing ensemble. Students will learn how to sing as an ensemble and read music. The Madison choir learns and performs a wide variety of repertoire including music from all time periods, pieces in different languages, and traditional songs from a wide variety of cultures. The Madison choir gives three evening concerts per school year and will perform in the community on occasion.

Theater is a group ensemble that performs up to three plays and/or musicals per school year.  Students will have on stage opportunities to learn to act, sing, and dance. In addition, students will have the opportunity to learn stagecraft skills such as: operating stage lights, microphones and sound equipment, and to construct and paint scenery.
